A few pictures from our long canyon ranch property
these were only out a few days before the cows moved in on the Trophy Rock
A bunch of the bigger bucks never showed up during
the hunting season
As you can see there are a bunch of up and
coming 1 and 2 year old bucks
As you can see there are a bunch of up and
coming 1 and 2 year old bucks
One of the reasons we really love the trail
cameras is to watch the bucks from year to year--this buck didn't change much from 2007 see below
How wide do you think this buck is? We figured
he was pusing 32 inches for an outside spread
One of the coolest things about the bigger
buck is how far up his beams his eye-guards are
It's also been interesting to watch behavior
between different animals--see the Trophy Rock between the bucks
One year older and wiser we guess. This is the same
buck from above taken a little over a year later
We're amazed at how big of a hole in the ground the
animals will dig to follow the minerals leaching out of the Trophy Rock
This is this bucks 3rd year on the Rock--while is antler
size has remained about the same--his body is huge.
He certainly rules the roost at this site, that is until
the big bulls find it.
We get a bunch of bulls in the 320-340 class here is one
that if he keeps going ought to be a great bull in a year or three
We are contiually amazed how fast a 15lb rock of the
Trophy Rock will disapear after the elk find it.
We have documented as many as 19 animals around a rock
at a time and for as long as 3 hours in one sitting--can they ever get enough.
We also find it amazing how the flash doesn't seem to
bother the animals as well--we have had over 400 flashes with no effect that we can see.
We named this bull the Octi bull due to his small
octups like suction cups at the base of his g1-g3s.
We suspect he has a mild for of testiculitus
causing him to grow cactus buck like antlers.
We know he made it through the hunting seasons
it will be cool to see if he comes back in 2008, stay tuned.
Look close you can see the deformations the
best in this picture.
We call this buck the split beam buck he
showed up just this year
We're not sure if it is an bump or injury
that caused this antler growth or some genitic trait.
He only came in during a few days from the
18th--23rd of July.
Stay tuned to see if he returns in 2008.
We were glad to see the old cactus buck
back again in 2007.
We keep thinking he's getting old enough
to die on the winter range or get shot here he is again in 2007
We first captured him on the trail cam
in 2006 but we have watched him now since 2004--2006 photo
He was always hanging out with this 160+
buck that was shot 2 times with an arrow by a slob hunter and was later found by BTO--and soon drug off by a bear
We named this buck the crown buck when we
took these pictures in 2007 and realized then we had him from 2006 as well.
You can see he has a nice tripod crown
on his right side.
2006 he shows up at another trail camera
set up about a mile away from the 2007 site
We never saw this buck again--we don't
know if he made it through the hunts or not--well see in 2008.
No name for this big bull--he ought to
be bigger in 2008.
He came in multiple times some times with
other bulls but often by himself
He was never very camera shy either and
the flash didn't seem to bother him a bit.
On this visit he came in laid down and
licked the salt for over 30 minutes collecting over 50 pictures
This isn't the biggest bull on the mountain
but he sure enjoyed his wallow this was the best focused picture.
A few pictures of a bull we called Spider from
Dan Luke. We passed this bull at 60 yards with a rifle hunter--all on film
He's got great 1-3s but his 4's and 5's are stumpy. Spider was
later killed on the CWMU he scored 385 and change
Dueling bulls over the trophy rock.

Odds ends and other critters--here are some trophy shots of things you don't see every day.
Now thats a big BULL
Not a big bull but we are amazed what a bunch
of critters can do to the ground after 1 year of Trophy Rock. The hole is 4 feet across and now a foot and a half
deep.
a young badger in search of a free meal as it ambles
past a sage-grouse nest
we were suprised to see this bobcat at this elk wallow
even more suprised by its size--it looks big here we tried but never did call it in.
A coyote drinks the water after a rain at this trophy rock
site, I guess there is more than one way to pick up your trace elements.
We see a bunch of tough licking almost like a dog with peanut butter.
We simply call this, you suck while I lick.
